Driverless vehicles complete 8,077 mile journey
Driverless electric vehicles complete an 8,077 mile journey (13,000k) across Europe starting in Italy and ending up in Shanghai China. The caravan of 4 vans drove through europe, russia, the gobi desert and finished the trip by ending up at the Shanghai World Expo. The vans averaged about 37 Mph and traveled about 4 hours per day. Little human intervention was needed only during a few scenarios such as toll booths. Challenges included replacing a battery in one vehicle and evading a traffic ticket from a baffled police officer that pulled over one of the vans because it violated a pedestrian traffic zone.
