Police in Manila using electric cars

Police in Manila, Philippines are testing electric patrol cars for routine street patrols to save money as gas prices soar to new heights. They are also undergoing testing in other cities throughout the country as well. The patol cars aren’t expected to totally replace police cars as they only go 30 Km per hour but will definitely help reducing gas and also allow patrols in busy shopping areas. Read More

1999 Ford Ranger electric conversion

Al has converted a 1999 Ford Ranger into a pure electric truck which he calls ‘EPT2′ (EPT1 was his first electric car…a 1972 Datsun Pickup). Al says in the article that his new EV Truck has a range of about 35-40 miles and tops out at a respectable 60 Mph. His conversion parts are standard parts such as lead acid batteries and an off-the-shelf electric motor. read more

552kW Lightning GT electric car to debut this month

Look out Tesla…here comes competition. The Lightning GT will be rolling out this month and has some nice specs. 0-60 times of 4 seconds flat, top speed of 130 Mph, carbon fibre and kevlar body. 120kW brushless electric motors on each wheel eliminates the need for a gearbox, differentials, axles or driveshafts and has regenaterive braking on all four wheels. It won’t have transmission problems like the first Tesla roadsters had. Wheelspin and traction control will be controlled by an on-board computer system and does not require any mechanical parts. The 552kW electric drivetrain draws power from a state-of-the-art nano-titanate battery technology allowing the car to accelarate more quickly than most supercars cars on the street today. Read More

BMW launches electric car trial testing

Starting with hundreds of e-mini’s, BMW will be testing electric drive systems for use in its future lines of luxury cars. Through its R&D efforts, BMW wants to ensure it can bring cars to market that are not only eco-friendly but also a pleasurable driving experience that so many BMW owners are accustomed to. Mitsubishi launching electric car ahead of schedule

Word on the street is that Mitsubishi will be launching its minicar i MiEV plug-in electric vehicle to retail customers next summer, a year ahead of schedule. Apparently Mitsubishi rethought their plans because of favorable market conditions (high gas prices) and a smooth mass-production line that they have right now. We can safely say that these things will most likely be selling like hot cakes right off the production line.

Subaru working on electric car

Subaru is working on concept electric car called ‘Stella’. Its a 4 seater that will have a top speed of 60 Mph and have a range of about 50 miles using a 40 kilowatt motor and lithium ion batteries. Not much of a range if you plan to be detached from the wall socket for too long. Its a good start non the less considering many mainstream car companies don’t even have a working concept electric car. Will Subaru ever have an electric concept for its WRX line? Read More

Tesla working on 5-passenger ev sedan

Tesla is working hard on its next big project…an all electric 5-passenger sedan. Tesla wants to branch out and have offerings for more than just sports car enthusiasts which is very smart. Tesla already has a head start in the race to get electric cars to the U.S. market. The Model S should be ready by late 2010 (we were hoping sooner) have a range of 225 miles and cost around $60K.
