Sumitomo Electric uses Superconducting Motor in EVs

Definitely an interesting motor that Sumitomo Electric has…a superconducting motor. Regular electric motors generate low amounts of torque at low voltages. The superconducting motor can produce a higher torque at a lower current. Instead of using standard copper wires for the coil, a superconductor uses superconducting wire material that allows electrical current to flow 200X more readily. This can be especially beneficial in larger vehicles like buses, big rigs and heavy dump trucks that typically require ‘big block’ torque. Read more here
