Nepal quickly adopting electric cars

27 05 2008

Electric cars or safa tempos are becoming very common these days on the roads in Nepal. A fossil fuel vehicle costs 10 cents/Km compared with 7 cents/Km for every electric vehicle. As oil prices go higher that gap in savings will increase even further. Most of these vehicles are electric buses and tour buses. Although they cost $13,500 for each vehicle there are already 650 on the road today and people are already noticing a difference it has been making in Nepal’s heavily polluted city of Kathmandu.

Solar powered electric speed boat

26 05 2008

A nice change from electric cars (not that we get tired of them)…the Czeers MK1 is a sweet solar powered electric boat. This beautiful aquatic vehicle is capable of speeds of 30 Knots (34Mph). It seems like a very smart idea going right to solar instead of just electric boats seeing that most boats sit in direct sunlight most of their life. You could basically boat to your hearts content and never feel guilty or hurtin’ on the wallet. Of course we’d love to have more details such as batteries, motor, price and other geeky stuff…but we do not. If we get more we will certainly update the posting.

Tesla Motors prepares for IPO

20 05 2008

Tesla’s chairman Elon Musk mentioned in a conference today that Tesla Motors will be going public before the end of 2008. New technology can be risky when it comes to pleasing Wall Street. History has shown that investors sometimes buy tech stocks for the hype or for emotional reasons and then when the math adds up the stocks eventually spike down and level off. Elon also mentioned that the majority of new cars 30 years from now will be pure electric. We sure hope you’re right about that Elon. Good luck on opening day!

Yup thats right…we’re not the only ones with gas problems. So what do you do when the Israelis put a damper on your gas? Burn cooking oil…what happens when the cooking oil well runs dry? Convert to electric of course and thats just what Fayez Anan did. Using 32 batteries and getting a range of 120 miles per charge, Gazans are begging him to convert their cars to electric. His conversions run around $2,500 each and up depending on the type of vehicle.

Chevy announces Chevy Volt’s official date - Nov 2010

18 05 2008

Its now officially official…Chevrolet has announced that it will launch the new chevy volt on Nov 2010. Everything about the Volt has been exciting as far as concept, design, ideas and so forth. The launch date does seem like a long time considering many electric cars are being launched well before 2010. We wonder why they would wait so long and how much market share Chevy has or will lose because of such a late introduction. You would think a big car company such as GM would step it up and put more efforts towards getting a car like this to market and try to gain people’s attention before other companies steal their market share.
