Think City coming to the U.S.

24 04 2008

In case you haven’t heard the Think City is coming to the U.S. via Think North America by the end of next year. Smaller than a BMW mini cooper and an estimated range of 110 Miles per charge the Think City can zip 2 occupants to top speed 65Mph. The price range is expected to cost under $25,000. Not a bad price and much better than Zenn’s neighborhood vehicle offering.

Think will be producing the new cars in Southern California and the batteries will be coming from A123 Systems and EnerDel, Inc. The first batteries will be sodium-based and will follow by lithium based batteries. The exterior is made mostly of recycled plastic. GE is definitely looking forward to this one considering the investment it has put into it. 2009? Jeez…these electric cars are taking forever!

Senate OK’s money for Las Vegas to Los Angeles Maglev train

21 04 2008

las_vegas_maglev.jpgApparently the U.S. Senate has approved $45 Mil in funding for the Las Vegas to Los Angeles Maglev train project and is now on its way to president Bush. We Angelino’s hate that 7 hour Sunday trip back to L.A. from Vegas…and who likes going to the congested airport these days? Not us. With high airfares and long waits we’d rather swoosh through the desert at blistering speeds while we’re gettin’ our drink on! Unfortunately this project is 20 years in the making and has been estimated at $12 billion so who knows maybe by the time its complete we’ll already have flying cars!

BYD to mass produce electric cars

20 04 2008

BYD Auto Co plans to start mass producing an all-electric vehicle in china in about 2 yrs. Said to go 300Km or 186mi per charge and will hit the chinese market around 2009 or 2010. According to the article the car takes 9 hrs to charge its lithium ion batteries but can charge to 80% capacity in only 15 minutes. We wonder like all stuff from china will this be available on ebay? It’ll be interesting to see if byd presents any competition to the current hybrids from Toyota & Honda.
